1. Why is LITA raising money for a Scholarship campaign?

In celebration of our 50th Anniversary, LITA seeks to raise $10,000 to provide professional development scholarships to support our value of diversity and inclusion while investing in the future leaders of LITA.

2. What are the selection criteria for the professional development scholarship applicants?

Some of the criteria that will be used to select the professional development scholarship winners include

  • Applicant must be a member of a group not well-represented within the membership of LITA, including but not limited to: women, people of color, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ AND/OR
  • Applicants must be employed at an institution that serves, or be in a position to serve, under-represented groups.
  • Applicant must be interested in actively contributing to the mission and goals of LITA.
  • Applicants will be selected based upon their merit and financial needs.
  • Applicants who have not previously been awarded a LITA scholarship.

3. How much will be awarded in professional development scholarship funding?

LITA will provide 6 professional development scholarships of up to $1500 each for new librarians or new to ALA/LITA technologists to attend the 2017 LITA Forum. LITA will also provide two scholarships of $1000 each to support 2017 LITA sponsored ALA Emerging Leaders.

4. How can I track progress toward achieving the fundraising goal?

Progress toward the goal will be posted weekly on the LITA 50th Anniversary website.

5. What happens if LITA Members raise more than the $10,000 in professional development scholarship funds?

If the Campaign raises more than $10,000, the LITA 50th Anniversary Task Force in consultation with the LITA Board will decide where there is the greatest need for professional development scholarship funding. Additional funds may be used to increase the number of scholarships for 2017 or may be used to provide scholarships for 2018.

6. How will scholarship recipients be chosen?
The LITA Board will select the ALA Emerging Leaders Scholarship Award Winners. The LITA 50th Anniversary Task Force will select the LITA Forum Scholarship Award Winners for 2017. If additional funds for awards in 2018 and beyond are available, the LITA Board will appoint a group to select the award winners.
